First of all, there is a very practical reason: English is the only language the entire team can communicate in fluently enough! We also want WTMG to be open to everyone, so that people in other countries can implement the initiative in their country too. On the facebook page we will stick to English. If you feel more comfortable writing in Dutch or French please do!

La première raison est toute simple : l’anglais est la seule langue commune de notre équipe de bénévoles ! Nous souhaitons aussi ouvrir Welcome To my Garden au plus grand nombre et donc permettre à des personnes ne parlant ni français ni néerlandais de l’utiliser et, qui sait, de le répliquer dans leur propre pays. Nous continuerons à poster en anglais sur facebook, mais n’hésitez pas à nous écrire en néerlandais ou français ! -

How does Welcome To My Garden differ from other platforms such as Warmshowers?

There are quite a few other platforms out there that cater to the needs of (slow) travellers. Whereas Warmshowers is for cyclists only, WTMG is for both hikers and cyclists. Also, WTMG is all about tents, not beds. You could consider it the outdoor version of Couchsurfing. There is a commercial initiative called Campspace in the Netherlands which does more or less the same thing as WTMG, but you have to pay for your camping spot. WTMG is a free initiative, and you don’t need to pay your host for your stay.

Warmshowers (que beaucoup de nos bénévoles utilisent !) est exclusivement réservée aux cyclistes. Welcome To My Garden est utilisable par tous les voyageurs et voyageuses à vélo, à pied ou ceux qui se déplacent en transports en commun. De plus, sur cette plateforme, vous ne trouverez que des emplacements pour camper, pas de lits. C’est un peu le Couchsurfing de la tente si vous voulez. Aux Pays-Bas, il existe une initiative commerciale appelée Campspace qui fait plus ou moins la même chose que Welcome To My Garden, mais qui est payante. Welcome To My Garden est une initiative gratuite, vous ne devrez donc pas payer votre hôte. -

Since WTMG is only catering to hikers and cyclists, we expect you to bring nothing bigger than a trekker’s tent. That means it should easily fit in your pack. If you’re not sure your tent will fit in your host’s garden, please consult them before leaving.

Etant donné que Welcome To My Garden est destiné aux cyclistes et randonneurs, apportez une tente trek qui rentre facilement dans votre sac. Si vous n’êtes pas sûr que votre tente rentre dans le jardin de votre hôte, vérifiez avec lui/elle avant de partir ! -
