In order to find a well-fitting bra you should also take into account the consistency and form of your breasts. Is the tissue soft or firm, the volume in the lower or upper part? How wide is the cleavage? For breast with a narrow cleavage the separator shouldn’t be too high. For breast with a wide cleavage a high separator is recommended, otherwise you breast may easily fall out of the bra, especially when you have a soft bosom. You should then refrain from wearing plunge bras. Go for a balconette bra or full cups instead. If you have small, firm and wide breasts, you should go for half cups with wide wires instead.

Once you’ve put on your bra, lean over and let the breasts fall into your cups. Then stroke the tissue from the sides into the cups, so that they will hold the entire breast. When the underband is horizontal, offering the right support, the cup is well-filled, nothing spills out at the sides or on top, the separator lies tight on your sternal and the straps don’t slip, then – yay! – you have have found a fitting bra.

Breath in and measure the scope of your chest, horizontally, below your breasts. Then substract two inches. This is the size of your underbust band. If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller one. Now measure your bust girth. The tape measure must be run horizontally across your nipples. Then substract the your chest girth from your bust girth. The difference between these two sizes determines your cup size. You can now figure it out with the following chart:

When your breasts are only little, but you’d like to give them some support and form, you should get a bustier or sports bra. A tight sports bra can stabilize your breast and make it look flatter.

When your breasts are bigger and you don’t want to hide them but form them or even emphasize them, you can buy a wired bra. It may take you a little getting used to wearing this kind of bra because of the wires.

A similar effect can be achieved with a soft bra (non wired). It will form as well, but it is more comfortable than a bra with wires. The support is not as strong as that of a wired bra, though.
