Simple words and words without translation

    Hello,

    First, I want to say thank you for approving me as a translator. As I haven't done this before and I would like to get the translations as accurate as possible I have two questions.

    1. Is there a way to see where the translation would be applied.
      This is really important as in Bulgarian the words would change meaning and/or suffixes

    2. What about words that are not yet "invented" in the language we are translating. What I mean is that English evolves all the time adding new words or meaning of words. How should I be handling those [example PODs, the translation is follicle]

    For this project I'm running a regularly updated preview site at http://dfo.mrzyx.de, if you're unsure where something is used, just ask.

    There's no general rule about your second issue and I wouldn't want to establish one. Each cultural context has its own traditions on how to handle these things, it's already diverse in this project. For example the German translation keeps it untranslated as pod, the Russian translation has chosen a similar metaphor and I'm sure there are some teams who just transliterate or translate the word, regardless of the meaning. Choose what's fits best in your context but I'd suggest you to have a look at https://webtranslateit.com/en/projects/3020-Diaspora and stick to the conventions that are established there for your language. Make sure to use the TermBase, it's shared across the two projects and provides a useful tool to define such terms and their translations.
