What is the meaning of all the following:
%e %B %Y
%A
M%P
Do they need to be translated? -
This is some code that represents the date format. You can see the full format on this page: http://apidock.com/ruby/DateTime/strftime
%e is Day of the month, blank-padded ( 1..31)
%B is The full month name (January'')
Sunday'')
%Y Year with century (can be negative, 4 digits at least) -0001, 0000, 1995, 2009, 14292, etc.
%A The full weekday name (
%M Minute of the hour (00..59)
%P Meridian indicator, lowercase (am'' or
pm'')So in the case of %e %B %Y this would translate in English to 31 January 2015 for instance. And if you translate as the same this would translate as 31 Enero 2015 (month names, day names are already translated into Spanish).
You can also add words for instance:
%e de %b %Y would be 31 de Enero 2015.
I hope that makes sense?
-
But, do I have to translate them or leave them as they are?
-
Hey Clara. You can leave them out. You don’t need to translate those (but you might in some other projects and they are a pain in the ass)
Basically they need to be localized into Spanish. But since these are generic dates (i.e. it's used by all the websites in Spanish using that programming language) I found them already translated in Spanish on Internet: https://github.com/svenfuchs/rails-i18n/blob/master/rails/locale/es.yml
